Woodstick Nov 7, 2010

Woodstick is a thousand drummers in a fieldhouse pounding out beats, rhythms and all kinds of noise at the same time. Now it could be more than noise, but while all those drummers are preping for the same song, they are tuning up and showing off their "sticking".   Most impressive are the young uns...man oh man can they beat it.  No inhabition.  They just rock it out.
As for me, I was quite thrilled to get my snare drum head changed and tuned.  After the Log Lady took it out on "my babes", I figured I needed some TLC for my workhorse.  Now it shines and sounds soooo sweet.
I will be giving it a ride tonight.
Next year...Woodstock with a full drum kit.  Wooo Hoo!

Thrash is Trashed

Now that is a headline.  Band news!  Bass guitar player, Thrash, was hit by a  red Toyota 4 x 4 pick up on Wednesday after leaving band practice.  With music still humming in his ears, Thrash got trashed and then the guy took off (as in Hit and Run).  Thrash was the lucky guy this time, as his sweet Fender bass survived the trashing.  But his car suffered $2,000 worth of damage.  Thrash is OK....luckily....  cuz we all need to "Play On".

Lefty almost Lost his Left

I don't know what it is about Lefty, but that guy has a way of sticking his digits into places they should not be stuck.  This time we are talking about his LEFT BIG TOE (not his right).  At practice on Wednesday night, he announced that it was lucky that he showed up to play.  He was sitting on a chair with his toe stuck in a place where it should not be stuck when the chair starts to tip over.  Instead of completely tearing his toe off, he just ripped all the tendons attaching his big left peditarsal.   Apparently, some blood was involved...disgusting.  He showed up at band practice with a limp...but that is Lefty...Lucky!

BAND PRACTICE

Hendrix, Thrash and Lefty got the gear here.  They look like movers as they haul in their guitar cases, amps, song books, and beer.  It's Wednesday  night...Band Practice.  Set up gear, engage some beer and wine.  Tune up.  Turn up.  Jam a bit.  Drink a bit.  Laugh a lot.  Story time.  Play a fav tune....Hendrix wants to focus on the event for Andrew.  The set list is enforce, but we might stray a bit.  In fact, Hendrix is the one that always strays a bit, once he gets that electric hummming...we just cruise to his strumming.  (Hey, could that be a song?)  Tonight we are so....on our game.  We have not missed a beat ....well maybe I did miss one or two...not bad for a 2  hour practice session.  It's really Thrash who gives us our character....when you hear that bass guitar filling in with Hendrix, it sounds like One as One Guitar....in harmonius melody.  Bettch greased his vocals on this night.  Where did all those notes come from?  Geeez, Louise...singing it some more.

Lefty was a little tardy for band practice (anybody got a ruler?).  He  had to extricate himself from the Neighborhood meeting.....good reason to leave a meeting...Rock and Roll Band Practice..."excuse meeee...I'm a guitar player in a Rock and Roll Band called Stix and Stones. ...see yall later."
Good thing for us he arrived in one piece, I guess he chased away a couple coyotes on the first bend and then on the 2nd bend he ran head-on into a herd of deer.  Pretty amazing since we all  live in the Burb.

I did digress there...back on track.   Stix and Stones ripped every song.  It's one of those feelings that you only get from playing rock and roll music....like such an accomplishment.  There are 5 of us that make that kind of music.  We're pretty thrilled about it.  Let's face it....5 years ago, we were all sitting behind desks thinking that life is passing us by...we need to spice it up a bit.  It all came together in some Cosmic Rock and Roll Universe...the band...the music...the friendship and the purpose.  What is really cooool...is when we put smiles on people's face.  Get them to dance.  We'll keep on playing.  More Band Practice for me, please.
