We all wish that life could be one continuous party. Sometimes there is a wrench thrown in the mix.
Life happens in ways that one can not predict. Andrew, 28 years of age, and a friend since the day he was born, was diagnosed in June 2010 with stomach cancer. I can explain, but first the details of the gig.
Stix and Stones will be playing at a benefit for Andrew on Saturday, Feb 12, 2011, in combination with Eastside Catholic High School. A spaghetti dinner, wine / beer, 2 - 3 bands, and dancing being planned.
We need a big turn out in support of Andrew. We would like eveyone to come and spread good vibes for Andrew. Dance, Dance, Dance.
Now for the skinny on Andrew.
A science teacher at Eastside Catholic High. Voted "Teacher of the Year" in 2008. An avid Husky football fan. Loves his 2 dogs. Loves teaching kids. Has an indominable spirit.
Andrew was diagnosed and then went into surgery on July 20th, 2010. This type of cancer is extremely rare in someone as young as Andrew. The surgery went well, but the healing has not. Andrew remained in the ICU at the UW clinic until Oct 5th, 2010. That is round the clock constant care. Under heavy sedation, breathing tubes and with life supporting measures, Andrew has made great progress.
As of this date, Oct 14th, he is still in the hospital at UW. His rehab phase is going to be tough and he is still not completely healed from the surgery. There are many complications involved, but the outlook is that once all systems are a "go", he will undergo Chemo. 8 out of the 40 lymph nodes had cancer cells. We have to get rid of those.
Andrew's friends and family have rallied to support this wonderful young man. Eastside Catholic has had one fundraiser by the football booster club that raised over $20,000. This is amazing. But we need to do more.
And we are in the planning stages of the next event. We need everyone..this will take a village, lots of prayers and lots of positive thoughts for Andrew.
Stay tuned and send your prayers and thoughts to Andrew.
